Graduation and Commencement

Graduation

The Arts & Sciences Degree Certification Office will help you understand all the steps necessary to successfully graduate from Baylor.

When you’ve earned 90 or more hours, you will need to apply for graduation by the deadline posted in the undergraduate catalog. The Degree Certification Office will then be able to verify completion of requirements for degree certification and order your diploma. Complete your Graduation Application on BearWeb: BearWeb > Student Academic Services > Student Records > Apply to Graduate.

Effective for the December 2019 University ceremonies, Baylor University is moving to a non-certified University commencement. For more information, visit the Registrar's website or contact the Degree Certification Office.

The Difference Between Commencement and Degree Conferral
Conferral of an academic degree is a separate event from the public commencement ceremony that symbolically commemorates that academic achievement. Baylor students who participate in commencement ceremonies are considered “candidates” for a degree. The final awarding of degrees and honors is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of the appropriate requirements by each candidate. Degree conferral is not official until grades are posted and candidates are certified as having completed all requirements.  Only then do graduates receive their diplomas, which are sent to them several weeks after the end of the semester.
