Dr. James Stamey Named Associate Dean for Research in Arts & Sciences
James Brockmole, Ph.D., dean of the Baylor University College of Arts & Sciences, has announced that James Stamey, Ph.D., has been appointed as associate dean for research and strategic initiatives in the College.
Dr. Stamey, who joined the Baylor faculty in 2005, is a professor of statistical science who has served as chair of the Department of Statistical Science since 2018. He will begin a three-year term as associate dean on August 15, 2026, and will also serve as acting chair of the statistical science department until a successor as chair is chosen.
"James is a remarkable scholar, visionary administrator, and a passionate advocate for excellence within the College of Arts & Sciences,” Dr. Brockmole said. "He has been a leading voice in the College’s various multidisciplinary initiatives in quantitative methods, data science and artificial intelligence, and has considerable experience supporting research through federal funding mechanisms as well as non-governmental partnerships. His experience and innovative leadership is perfectly suited to helping us implement A&Spire in Deeds, our A&S strategic plan, and to advance faculty research throughout the arts, sciences, social sciences and humanities."

Stamey succeeds Patrick Farmer, Ph.D., as the Arts & Sciences associate dean overseeing research efforts. Farmer was named interim chair of the new School of Earth and Environmental Sciences in the College, which was launched June 1.
"I want to express my deepest thanks to Dr. Farmer,” Brockmole said. “He is a thoughtful and skilled administrator with a keen sense of strategy and a knack for its implementation. I am grateful for his service and leadership as associate dean the past few years, and I am very excited to work with him in his new role."
