Baylor's MOAS Team Excels in International Competition

On November 14-16, 2025, Baylor University’s Model Organization of American States team competed at the 29th Summit of the Americas at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas.

Twenty-three national delegations from universities from throughout Texas, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean participated in the summit. The Baylor team represented the Dominican Republic and the Republic of Cuba in committees that budgeted for previously approved resolutions and addressed human rights and development in the hemisphere. The committees debated resolutions to combat gender inequality in government and increase the development of and access to healthcare. The delegations also dealt with a notional crisis scenario that involved alleged drug trafficking and extrajudicial killings in the Caribbean.

Baylor’s Kenton Shieh (senior, history, San José, California) served as the Parliamentarian for the Summit. Molly Dagley (senior, international studies, Houston, Texas) received the award for parliamentary mastery in her role as delegate to the human rights committee. She also won the award for distinguished delegate in that committee.  Oliver Jamieson (senior, communications, Chicago, Illinois) won the award for distinguished delegate in the budget committee.

Other Baylor delegates were Roger Spletzer (senior, international studies, Chevy Chase, Maryland), Avery Millington (senior, medical humanities, Ft. Worth, Texas), Alejandra Arriaga (senior, supply chain management, McAllen, Texas), Marissa Ramos-Macías (senior, political science, Houston, Texas), McKenna Croft (junior, political science, Baton Rouge, Louisiana), Allie Tobin (junior, management information systems, Arlington Heights, Illinois), Nouran Abdelrahman (junior, political science, Austin, Texas) and Jenna Moon (sophomore, international studies, Bedford, Texas).

In 2026, the Baylor MOAS team will compete in the Washington, D.C. Summit on April 7-10.
